FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Evelyn A. Gill, Executive Director of PEI Kids in Lawrenceville, was one of two recipients of the Ewing Kiwanis Businessperson of the Year Award.

Also receiving a Businessperson of the Year Award was Shirley Rader of Rader Realty and a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club. A reception in the recipients’ honor was held at the General Quarter’s Restaurant in Ewing on August 9. Both women and their organizations were recognized for their business achievements as well as their support of the Ewing Kiwanis Club and the Ewing community over the years. Gill addressed the club this May about PEI Kids and its services.

Gill co-founded PEI Kids, then called Prevention Education Inc., in 1985. She did so after working at an existing community non-profit in the rape crisis program, realizing that the requests for help for children were numerous and that a child-specific program did not exist.

Today this two person agency has grown into a much larger organization in the past 22 years with a staff of more than 40 employees and 13 board members.  PEI Kids’ services have also expanded to meet the growing need in Mercer County for education, intervention and training programs related to children’s personal safety and child sexual abuse. In over two decades, PEI Kids has reached more than 100,000 children, parents, guardians and educators in Mercer County. PEI Kids’ educational programs have been a staple in the Ewing Public Schools as well as schools throughout Mercer County.

The award was presented to Gill by Carolyn Giovannini, President of the Ewing Kiwanis Club and Debra Calle, Chair of the Community Service Committee. “I am honored to be recognized with this award by the Ewing Kiwanis Club,” said Gill. “Both PEI Kids and Kiwanis have similar missions – to better the lives of children and to make this a better place for future generations.”

Gill and her husband, George, have resided in Lawrenceville for 41 years. Besides her work at PEI Kids, she serves as Vice President of US Youth Soccer, a three million member national organization headquartered in Frisco, Texas.  She is the mother of two adult sons and has three grandchildren.
