1.
Children who have had previous counseling will not
be
accepted into the Trauma, Loss & Depression: Intervention for Young Children Program.
2.
Children must be between the ages of 5 and 12.
3.
Be expressing one of or a combination of the following:
Trauma
or Loss Reaction related to:
- Death of a
loved one
- Terminal illness
of a loved one
- Victim or
witness of violence/abuse
Symptoms
of Depression such as:
- Inability
to concentrate - poor eye contact or incomplete or
unorganized school work
- Low self-esteem
- Acting out/disciplinary
issues in the classroom
- Thoughts and/or
statements of death and/or suicide
- “Daydreaming”
like behavior
- Fatigue or
loss of energy- incomplete school work, appearing tired throughout
the day, falling asleep in class
- Lack of interest
in pleasurable activities: school, friends, sports
- Social isolation
- Statements
such as “I’m bad,” “I’m stupid,”
or “I’m not good enough.”
- Change in
eating habits and/or sudden weight loss or gain
Symptoms
of Anxiety such as
- Irritability
- Trouble falling
or staying asleep
- Nervousness
- Repetitive
behavior
- Anger
- Constant
worry
- Fidgety
- Inability
to concentrate
