Stress, Anxiety
and Depression: Kids at Risk
A course designed
to provide adults with information regarding youth stress, anxiety
and depression. Practical tips are offered on improving communication
with children and ways to help kids manage complex issues in a healthy
fashion.
Attendees will learn about: the indicators which may help identify
children at risk for hurting themselves, early intervention strategies
and available community resources. This workshop can be presented
in Spanish.
Reducing
the Impact of Media Violence on Young Children
Research shows
that exposure to violence in the media can strongly impact the lives
of young children. Attendees will be given the latest facts related
to children and media exposure. This course effectively combines the
use of current research findings, interactive discussion and videos
and to create an understanding of how media violence can influence a
child’s behavior. Educators will be provided with skills and strategies
to reduce the Impact of Media Violence on Children.
Cyberbullying
/ Internet Safety
Internet safety
is a growing problem for schools and families. Learn what’s
out there in cyberspace. What is cyberbullying? What is the effect
of cyberbullying on young people? This workshop will provide information
on teaching kids how to use technology responsibly. Prevention of
cyberbullying and harassment will be discussed. Resources on promoting
Internet safety will be provided.
Young Children
and Discipline
Interactive workshop
that discusses the relationship of discipline to violence prevention.
Topics include: differentiating between discipline and punishment, factors
that influence the way teachers discipline and minimizing challenging
behaviors in the classroom. Various Discipline Scenarios will be evaluated.
Resources provided.
Child Assault
Prevention
This training,
developed by the NJ Child Assault Prevention Project, includes an overview
of assault, prevention techniques, and information on identification
of abused persons. “Active Listening Guidelines” are presented
to offer assistance in reacting to a child who discloses abuse or neglect.
Participants are provided with community resources and referrals for
reporting abuse; the legal rights and responsibilities for reporting
abuse are discussed.
No More
Bullies, No More Victims
A workshop developed
by the NJ Child Assault Prevention Project to address concerns by parents
and educators throughout the state around the issue of bullying. The
training assists in cultivating an understanding of the roles of not
only the victim and the offender, but also the “vicarious victim,”
those children who witness the bullying. The role of conflict resolution,
social skills, and anger management training in reduction of bullying
behavior are discussed. Interactive discussion and small group break-down
activities are used to effectively present strategies to intervene and
prevent bullying. Extensive resource packet provided to attendees.
