Child Assault Prevention

The Child Assault Prevention (CAP) program is an international prevention program designed to teach children how to exercise their rights to be "safe, strong and free". CAP uses role play and guided group discussion to teach children how to recognize potentially dangerous situations and how to implement effective safety strategies. The content of the workshops covers bullying (peer assault), assault by a stranger, and sexual assault by a known individual. The program stresses communication, self-assertion, peer support, and reporting skills as practical prevention techniques.

The TeenCAP program addresses common types of assault against adolescents, personal safety rights, and strategies for handling dangerous situations. Short scenarios are presented and the students are split by gender to discuss the scenarios. This separation permits more honest and comfortable exchange of information. Specific issues addressed are date rape, physical assault, sexual harassment, assault by a stranger, and sexual abuse by an adult.

All workshops are presented in the classroom with a teacher present.

Available to Grade Levels:
•Pre-school
•Kindergarten
•First through sixth grades
•Special needs students
•TeenCAP: Sixth through eighth grades
